Actin-like 7B

Tact-1, ACTL7B, T-ACTIN 1
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of actin-related proteins (ARPs) which share significant amino acid sequence identity to conventional actins. Both actins and ARPs have an actin fold, which is an ATP-binding cleft, as a common feature. The ARPs are involved in diverse cellular processes, including vesicular transport, spindle orientation, nuclear migration and chromatin remodeling. This gene (ACTL7B), and related gene, ACTL7A, are intronless, and are located approximately 4 kb apart in a head-to-head orientation within the familial dysautonomia candidate region on 9q31. Based on mutational analysis of the ACTL7B gene in patients with this disorder, it was concluded that it is unlikely to be involved in the pathogenesis of dysautonomia. Unlike ACTL7A, the ACTL7B gene is expressed predominantly in the testis, however, its exact function is not known. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

Methylation of CpG dinucleotides in the open reading frame of a testicular germ cell-specific intronless gene, Tact1/Actl7b, represses its expression in somatic cells.
Nozaki et al., Suita, Japan. In Nucleic Acids Res, 2003
To gain insight into this issue, we investigated the distribution and methylation status of CpG dinucleotides in the mouse Tact1/Actl7b gene, which is intronless and expressed exclusively in testicular germ cells.
African American hypertensive nephropathy maps to a new locus on chromosome 9q31-q32.
Vats et al., Pittsburgh, United States. In Am J Hum Genet, 2003
This 8-cM (6-Mb) region is flanked by markers D9S172 and D9S105, and further candidate gene sequencing studies excluded the coding regions of three genes (ACTL7A, ACTL7B, and CTNNAL1).
Novel actin-like proteins T-ACTIN 1 and T-ACTIN 2 are differentially expressed in the cytoplasm and nucleus of mouse haploid germ cells.
Nishimune et al., Suita, Japan. In Biol Reprod, 2003
results suggest that T-ACTINs play important roles in sperm function and in the specific morphogenesis of spermatozoa during spermiogenesis
Genomic structure and promoter activity of the testis haploid germ cell-specific intronless genes, Tact1 and Tact2.
Nozaki et al., Suita, Japan. In Mol Reprod Dev, 2003
The Tact1 and Tact2 genes, each of which encodes an actin-like protein, are exclusively expressed and translated in haploid germ cells in testis.
Cloning, mapping, and expression of two novel actin genes, actin-like-7A (ACTL7A) and actin-like-7B (ACTL7B), from the familial dysautonomia candidate region on 9q31.
Slaugenhaupt et al., United States. In Genomics, 1999
Two novel human actin-like genes, ACTL7A and ACTL7B, were identified by cDNA selection and direct genomic sequencing from the familial dysautonomia candidate region on 9q31.
