Ring finger and CHY zinc finger domain containing 1

Pirh2, Chimp, hPIRH2
The protein encoded by this gene has ubiquitin ligase activity. It mediates E3-dependent ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of target proteins, including TP53, HDAC1 and CDKN1B, thus regulating their levels and cell cycle progression. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011] (from NCBI)

Transcriptional profiling and dynamical regulation analysis identify potential kernel target genes of SCYL1-BP1 in HEK293T cells.
Huo et al., Shanghai, China. In Mol Cells, 2014
SCYL1-BP1 is thought to function in the p53 pathway through Mdm2 and hPirh2, and mutations in SCYL1-BP1 are associated with premature aging syndromes such as Geroderma Osteodysplasticum; however, these mechanisms are unclear.
Patient-centred, administration friendly medicines for children - an evaluation of children's preferences and how they impact medication adherence.
Bryson, Brighton, United Kingdom. In Int J Pharm, 2014
Phase one, the CHIMP study (children's medication preferences), investigated children's preferences in terms of the organoleptic properties of medicines, and factors which influence these preferences and medication adherence.
The E3 ligase PIRH2 polyubiquitylates CHK2 and regulates its turnover.
Hakem et al., Toronto, Canada. In Cell Death Differ, 2013
In this study, we demonstrate that the ubiquitin E3 ligase PIRH2 (p53-induced protein with a RING (Really Interesting New Gene)-H2 domain) interacts with CHK2 and mediates its polyubiquitylation and proteasomal degradation.
Placental invasion, preeclampsia risk and adaptive molecular evolution at the origin of the great apes: evidence from genome-wide analyses.
Crespi et al., Canada. In Placenta, 2013
RESULTS: Analyses revealed 295 and 264 genes under significant positive selection on the branches ancestral to Hominidae (Human, Chimp, Gorilla, Orangutan) and Homininae (Human, Chimp, Gorilla), respectively.
Androgen receptor primes prostate cancer cells to apoptosis through down-regulation of basal p21 expression.
Xiang et al., Chicago, United States. In Biochem Biophys Res Commun, 2013
Down-regulation of basal p21 expression depends on AR N-terminal interacting protein PIRH2, an E3 ligase for proteasomal degradation of p53.
The homeodomain transcription factor Hoxa2 interacts with and promotes the proteasomal degradation of the E3 ubiquitin protein ligase RCHY1.
Rezsöhazy et al., Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. In Plos One, 2012
Here, we reveal that Hoxa2 interacts with 20S proteasome subunits and RCHY1 (also known as PIRH2), an E3 ubiquitin ligase that targets p53 for degradation.
An evaluation of nest-building behavior by sanctuary chimpanzees with access to forested habitats.
Grand et al., Los Angeles, United States. In Folia Primatol (basel), 2012
The forested environment at Chimp Haven does allow captive chimpanzees to build nests of natural vegetation.
A review of autopsy reports on chimpanzees in or from US laboratories.
Peppercorn et al., Boston, United States. In Altern Lab Anim, 2012
The Chimpanzee Health Improvement, Maintenance, and Protection (CHIMP) Act 2000 states that chimpanzees "not needed" for research "shall" be accepted into the federal sanctuary system, but criteria for when a chimpanzee is deemed "not needed" are not given.
SCYL1 binding protein 1 promotes the ubiquitin-dependent degradation of Pirh2 and has tumor-suppressive function in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Guan et al., Taiwan. In Carcinogenesis, 2012
suggested that the interaction of SCYL1BP1/Pirh2 could accelerate Pirh2 degradation through an ubiquitin-dependent pathway. SCYL1BP1 may function as an important tumor suppressor gene in HCC development
Infectivity in chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) of plasma collected before HCV RNA detectability by FDA-licensed assays: implications for transfusion safety and HCV infection outcomes.
Alter et al., San Francisco, United States. In Blood, 2012
Plasma units obtained up to 8 weeks earlier were not infectious in a second susceptible chimp, even when from donors with low-level, intermittent HCV RNA detection.
Pirh2, a ubiquitin E3 ligase, inhibits p73 transcriptional activity by promoting its ubiquitination.
Leng et al., Edmonton, Canada. In Mol Cancer Res, 2011
This study provides evidence that the ubiquitination of p73 mediated by Pirh2 represents an important pathway for controlling the suppressive function of p73
Identification of Pirh2E and Pirh2F, two additional novel isoforms of Pirh2 ubiquitin ligase from human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line.
He et al., Wuhan, China. In Biomed Mater Eng, 2011
Compared to full-length PIRH2A, PIRH2E lacks amino acids 235-261, while PIRH2F is missing C-terminal amino acids 227-261 and both isoforms harbor the RING domain.
Role of Pirh2 in mediating the regulation of p53 and c-Myc.
Hakem et al., Toronto, Canada. In Plos Genet, 2011
these data reveal the in vivo roles of Pirh2 in the regulation of p53 and c-Myc stability and support its role as a tumor suppressor
The p73 tumor suppressor is targeted by Pirh2 RING finger E3 ubiquitin ligase for the proteasome-dependent degradation.
Chen et al., Davis, United States. In J Biol Chem, 2011
Pirh2 promotes the proteasomal turnover of TAp73, and thus targeting Pirh2 to restore TAp73-mediated growth suppression in p53-deficient tumors may be developed as a novel anti-cancer strategy.
