Troponin I type 3

cardiac troponin I, cardiac troponin T, cTnI
Troponin I (TnI), along with troponin T (TnT) and troponin C (TnC), is one of 3 subunits that form the troponin complex of the thin filaments of striated muscle. TnI is the inhibitory subunit; blocking actin-myosin interactions and thereby mediating striated muscle relaxation. The TnI subfamily contains three genes: TnI-skeletal-fast-twitch, TnI-skeletal-slow-twitch, and TnI-cardiac. This gene encodes the TnI-cardiac protein and is exclusively expressed in cardiac muscle tissues. Mutations in this gene cause familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy type 7 (CMH7) and familial restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

Luis Fuentes et al., United Kingdom. In J Vet Cardiol, Dec 2015
The evidence base for the use of cardiac biomarkers (primarily N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide and cardiac troponin I) in cats is comprehensively reviewed in this article, focusing on each of six specific areas: distinguishing cardiac from non-cardiac causes of respiratory distress; measurement of cardiac biomarkers in urine and pleural fluid; identification of occult cardiomyopathy; effects of systemic disease on circulating concentrations of cardiac biomarkers; point-of-care biomarker testing, and the possible prognostic utility of cardiac biomarker measurement.
