Zinc finger, matrin-type 3

Wig-1, PAG608, p53-activated gene 608
This gene encodes a protein containing three zinc finger domains and a nuclear localization signal. The mRNA and the protein of this gene are upregulated by wildtype p53 and overexpression of this gene inhibits tumor cell growth, suggesting that this gene may have a role in the p53-dependent growth regulatory pathway. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding two isoforms differing in only one amino acid. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

Genomic analysis of wig-1 pathways.
Monia et al., Carlsbad, United States. In Plos One, 2011
BACKGROUND: Wig-1 is a transcription factor regulated by p53 that can interact with hnRNP A2/B1, RNA Helicase A, and dsRNAs, which plays an important role in RNA and protein stabilization. in vitro studies have shown that wig-1 binds p53 mRNA and stabilizes it by protecting it from deadenylation.
