TAF9B RNA polymerase II, TATA box binding protein

TAF9L, TAF9b, DN7
Initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II requires the activities of more than 70 polypeptides. The protein that coordinates these activities is transcription factor IID (TFIID), which binds to the core promoter to position the polymerase properly, serves as the scaffold for assembly of the remainder of the transcription complex, and acts as a channel for regulatory signals. TFIID is composed of the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and a group of evolutionarily conserved proteins known as TBP-associated factors or TAFs. TAFs may participate in basal transcription, serve as coactivators, function in promoter recognition or modify general transcription factors (GTFs) to facilitate complex assembly and transcription initiation. This gene encodes a protein that is similar to one of the small subunits of TFIID, TBP-associated factor 9, and is also a subunit of TFIID. TAF9 and TAF9b share some functions but also have distinct roles in the transcriptional regulatory process. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

TAF6delta orchestrates an apoptotic transcriptome profile and interacts functionally with p53.
Bell et al., Sherbrooke, Canada. In Bmc Mol Biol, 2009
Interestingly, gene expression patterns controlled by TAF6delta share similarities with, but are not equivalent to, those reported to change following TAF9 and/or TAF9b depletion.
Dysregulation of X-linked gene expression in Klinefelter's syndrome and association with verbal cognition.
DeLisi et al., Irvine, United States. In Am J Med Genet B Neuropsychiatr Genet, 2007
The 14 X chromosome DEGs were not differentially expressed in prior studies comparing female and male brains suggesting a dysregulation profile unique to KS. Examination of X-linked DEGs, such as GTPBP6, TAF9L, and CXORF21, that show verbal cognition-gene expression correlations may establish a causal link between these genes, neurodevelopment, and language function.
TAF9b (formerly TAF9L) is a bona fide TAF that has unique and overlapping roles with TAF9.
