Exocytosis and synaptic vesicle function.
Shin, Galveston, United States. In Compr Physiol, 2014
In addition, at least five different types of synaptic vesicle proteins such as synaptic vesicle protein 2, cysteine string protein α, rab3, synapsin, and a group of proteins containing four transmembrane regions, which includes synaptophysin, synaptogyrin, and secretory carrier membrane protein, are involved in modulating the exocytotic process by regulating the formation and trafficking of synaptic vesicles.
Large homozygous RAB3GAP1 gene microdeletion causes Warburg micro syndrome 1.
Kaindl et al., In Orphanet J Rare Dis, 2013
WARBM1-4 can be caused by biallelic mutations of the RAB3GAP1 (RAB3 GTPase-activating protein 1), RAB3GAP2, RAB18 (RAS-associated protein RAB18), or TBC1D20 (TBC1 domain protein, member 20) gene, respectively.
RAB3GAP1 and RAB3GAP2 modulate basal and rapamycin-induced autophagy.
Behl et al., Mainz, Germany. In Autophagy, 2013
Significant levels of RAB3GAP1/2 colocalize with members of the Atg8 family at lipid droplets, and their autophagy modulatory activity depends on the GTPase-activating activity of RAB3GAP1 but is independent of the RAB GTPase RAB3.
Decreased expression of synapse-related genes and loss of synapses in major depressive disorder.
Duman et al., New Haven, United States. In Nat Med, 2012
Here we use microarray gene profiling and electron microscopic stereology to reveal lower expression of synaptic-function–related genes (CALM2, SYN1, RAB3A, RAB4B and TUBB4) in the dlPFC of subjects with MDD and a corresponding lower number of synapses.

Core proteins of the secretory machinery.
Jahn et al., Göttingen, Germany. In Handb Exp Pharmacol, 2007
Exocytosis of synaptic vesicles and regulated secretory granules are among the best-studied fusion events and involve the Rab3 isoforms Rab3A-D, the SM protein munc18-1, and the SNAREs syntaxin 1A, SNAP-25, and synaptobrevin 2. According to the current view, syntaxin 1A and SNAP-25 at the presynaptic membrane form a complex with synaptic vesicle-associated synaptobrevin 2. As complex formation proceeds, the opposed membranes are pulled tightly together, enforcing the fusion reaction.
