Phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type 2 alpha

PI4KII, phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase IIalpha, Phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type II, phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type IIalpha
Phosphatidylinositolpolyphosphates (PtdInsPs) are centrally involved in many biologic processes, ranging from cell growth and organization of the actin cytoskeleton to endo- and exocytosis. PI4KII phosphorylates PtdIns at the D-4 position, an essential step in the biosynthesis of PtdInsPs (Barylko et al., 2001 [PubMed 11244087]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] (from NCBI)

Chromosomal Instability and Phosphoinositide Pathway Gene Signatures in Glioblastoma Multiforme.
New
Waugh, London, United Kingdom. In Mol Neurobiol, Jan 2016
Structural rearrangements of chromosome 10 are frequently observed in glioblastoma multiforme and over 80 % of tumour samples archived in the catalogue of somatic mutations in cancer database had gene copy number loss for PI4K2A which encodes phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type IIalpha.
PI4KIIIα is required for cortical integrity and cell polarity during Drosophila oogenesis.
Brill et al., Toronto, Canada. In J Cell Sci, 2014
These effects reflect a unique requirement for PI4KIIIα, as egg chambers from flies mutant for either of the other Drosophila PI4Ks, fwd or PI4KII, show Golgi but not plasma membrane phenotypes.
Type II phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase regulates trafficking of secretory granule proteins in Drosophila.

GeneRIF
Warner et al., London, United Kingdom. In Amyotroph Lateral Scler, 2011
Results suggest that the phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase 2-alpha gene may not be a cause of autosomal recessive hereditary spastic paraplegia in humans.
Relationship between phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate synthesis, membrane organization, and lateral diffusion of PI4KIIalpha at the trans-Golgi network.
Waugh et al., London, United Kingdom. In J Lipid Res, 2010
Type II phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase IIalpha (PI4KIIalpha) is the dominant phosphatidylinositol kinase activity measured in mammalian cells and has important functions in intracellular vesicular trafficking.
Multiple host proteins that function in phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate metabolism are recruited to the chlamydial inclusion.
Scidmore et al., Ithaca, United States. In Infect Immun, 2010
Furthermore, two additional host proteins, Arf1, which together with PI4P mediates the recruitment of PI4P-binding proteins to the Golgi complex, and PI4KII alpha, a major producer of Golgi complex-localized PI4P, also localize to chlamydial inclusions.

Regulation of phosphatidylinositol kinases and metabolism by Wnt3a and Dvl.
GeneRIF
Wu et al., Shanghai, China. In J Biol Chem, 2009
Dvl directly interacted with and activated PI4KII alpha by increasing its V(max) for ATP and PtdIns. In addition, Dvl regulated PI4KII alpha and PIP5KI via different domains.

Wu et al., New Haven, United States. In Science, 2008
By screening a human kinase small interfering RNA library, we identified phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type II alpha and phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 5-kinase type I (PIP5KI) as required for Wnt3a-induced LRP6 phosphorylation at Ser1490 in mammalian cells and confirmed that these kinases are important for Wnt signaling in Xenopus embryos.

Carloni et al., Florence, Italy. In Gastroenterology, 2008
METHODS: In the present study using both loss- and gain-of-gene function approaches, we verified that the functional interaction of tetraspanin CD81 with type II phosphoinositide 4-kinase (PI4KII) suppressed HCC cell motility by promoting the formation of CD81-enriched vesicles, non-endosomal intracellular structures, that sequestered actinin-4 with consequent remodeling of actin cytoskeleton.
