This gene encodes a member of the alpha2-macroglobulin/complement superfamily. The encoded GPI-linked glycoprotein is found on the cell surface of platelets, activated T-cells, and endothelial cells. The protein binds to and negatively regulates signaling of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009] (from

These results confirm that rods are marginally functional in the absence of the beta-subunit and in addition show that CFF (critical flicker frequency)may be a more sensitive measure of remaining functional cone vision

Findings support the idea that GARP is a new latent TGFbeta-binding protein that regulates the bioavailability of TGFbeta and provides a cell surface platform for alphaV integrin-dependent TGFbeta activation.
There are 2 independent signals, one in C11orf30 and the other in LRRC32, that are strongly associated with serum IgE levels. C11orf30-LRRC32 region may represent a common locus for atopic diseases via pathways involved in regulation of serum IgE levels
