Neuronal PAS domain protein 1

NPAS1
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH)-PAS family of transcription factors. Studies of a related mouse gene suggest that it functions in neurons. The exact function of this gene is unclear, but it may play protective or modulatory roles during late embryogenesis and postnatal development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

19q13.32 microdeletion syndrome: three new cases.
Graham et al., Los Angeles, United States. In Eur J Med Genet, 2014
These findings are probably related to a deletion of some combination of the 20-23 genes in common between these two patients, especially NPAS1, NAPA, ARHGAP35, SLC8A2, DHX34, MEIS3, and ZNF541.
DNase hypersensitive sites and association with multiple sclerosis.

Whitelaw et al., Adelaide, Australia. In Nucleic Acids Res, 2013
Active bHLH/PAS heterodimers consist of a ubiquitous signal-regulated subunit (e.g., hypoxia-inducible factors, HIF-1α/2α/3α; the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, AhR) or tissue-restricted subunit (e.g., NPAS1/3/4, Single Minded 1/2), paired with a general partner protein, aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (Arnt or Arnt2).

Elhadidy et al., Al Manşūrah, Egypt. In Plos One, 2011
Transcripts of genes involved in neural tube development and patterning (ALDH1A2, FOXA2), progenitor marker genes (LMX1a, ALDH1A1, SOX10), proliferation of neural progenitors (WNT1 and WNT3a), neuroplastin (NPTN), POU3F1 (OCT6), neuroligin (NLGN4X), MEIS2, and NPAS1 were up-regulated in both cell populations.
Distinct molecular pathways for development of telencephalic interneuron subtypes revealed through analysis of Lhx6 mutants.
Rubenstein et al., Bethesda, United States. In J Comp Neurol, 2008
We provide evidence that Lhx6 mediates these effects through promoting expression of receptors that regulate interneuron migration (ErbB4, CXCR4, and CXCR7), and through promoting the expression of transcription factors either known (Arx) or implicated (bMaf, Cux2, and NPAS1) in controlling interneuron development.
