Herein, we delineated the catalytic and non-catalytic functions of AChE, and summarized the works of our group and others in research and development of novel AChEI-based multi-target-directed ligands (MTDLs), such as dual binding site AChEIs and multi-target AChEIs inhibiting Aβ aggregation, regulating Aβ procession, antagonizing PAF receptor, scavenging oxygen radical, chelating metal ions, inhibiting MAO-B, blocking NMDA receptor and others.

To explore further, sera from 52 patients with Rasmussen's encephalitis were tested by cell-based assays for antibodies to AMPAR GluA1/2/3, N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA NR1/2b), γ-aminobutyric acid type A and B (GABAAR α1/γ2/β2 and GABABR b1/b2) receptors, for potassium channel complex proteins, and for binding to live cortical and hippocampal neuronal cultures.

We show that E6 and E7 expression upregulates the OSM receptor gp130 and that OSM stimulation induces hepatocytes to expand for up to 40 population doublings, producing 10(13) to 10(16) cells from a single human hepatocyte isolate.
