RESULTS: Adenine lowered creatinine clearance and elevated the concentrations of urea, creatinine, plasma neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and urinary N-Acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase activity, and increased the concentrations of the uremic toxin indoxyl sulfate, in addition to some inflammatory cytokines.
