Kin of IRRE like

Neph1, nephronectin, KIRREL, NPNT
NEPH1 is a member of the nephrin-like protein family, which includes NEPH2 (MIM 607761) and NEPH3 (MIM 607762). The cytoplasmic domains of these proteins interact with the C terminus of podocin (NPHS2; MIM 604766), and the genes are expressed in kidney podocytes, cells involved in ensuring size- and charge-selective ultrafiltration (Sellin et al., 2003 [PubMed 12424224]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] (from NCBI)

Here we demonstrate that Neph1, Neph2, and Neph3 are expressed differentially in various tissues during ontogenesis in mouse and chicken.
A non-coding transcript of nephronectin promotes osteoblast differentiation by modulating microRNA functions.

expression of a fragment containing the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of nephronectin in osteoblast progenitor cells MC3T3-E1 promoted cell differentiation
Expression of POEM, a positive regulator of osteoblast differentiation, is suppressed by TNF-α.
GeneRIF
Kamijo et al., Tokyo, Japan. In Biochem Biophys Res Commun, 2011
These results suggest that TNF-alpha inhibits POEM expression through the NF-kappaB signaling pathway and down-regulation of POEM influences the inhibition of osteoblast differentiation by TNF-alpha.
Motor protein Myo1c is a podocyte protein that facilitates the transport of slit diaphragm protein Neph1 to the podocyte membrane.
GeneRIF
Nihalani et al., Philadelphia, United States. In Mol Cell Biol, 2011
Localization of Neph1 to the podocyte cell membrane is altered in the presence of mutant Myo1c, and is actin dependent. Knockdown of Myo1c inhibits Neph1 membrane localization. Neph1 is critical for the maintenance of glomerular function.
