Potassium large conductance calcium-activated channel, subfamily M beta member 3
KCNMB3, hbeta3, KCNMB2, hbeta2, hKCNMB3
MaxiK channels are large conductance, voltage and calcium-sensitive potassium channels which are fundamental to the control of smooth muscle tone and neuronal excitability. MaxiK channels can be formed by 2 subunits: the pore-forming alpha subunit and the modulatory beta subunit. The protein encoded by this gene is an auxiliary beta subunit which may partially inactivate or slightly decrease the activation time of MaxiK alpha subunit currents. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A related pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 22. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2009] (from

GalNAc transferase 7 (GALNT7), ATP-Binding Cassette, Sub-Family G (WHITE), Member 1 (ABCG1), and an intergenic region on chromosome 9 were associated with NP score; and Potassium Large Conductance Calcium-Activated Channel, Subfamily M, Beta Member 2 (KCNMB2) was strongly associated with HS.

We have identified three distinct sets of amino acid residues in the N-terminal extracellular domain of the hbeta1 subunit, which when mutated to the homologous residue in hbeta3 allow expression as a functional homomeric receptor.
The extracellular loop of hbeta2 acting as the channel regulator influences the rectification and toxin sensitivity of BK channels, and the inactivation domain at its N terminus induces rapid inactivation.

In contrast, when human beta3 (hbeta3) was introduced into mSMC, there was an enhanced VN binding in spite of an equivalent amount of total beta3 expression, and IGF-I-dependent beta3, and SHPS-1 phosphorylation were detected.
The properties of native BK(i) currents obtained from both whole-cell and inside-out patches are very similar to inactivating BK channels produced by co-expressing mSlo1 alpha- and hbeta2-subunits in Xenopus oocytes.

significance of inactivation in BK channels mediated by beta subunits arises not from inactivation, but from differences in the amplitude and duration of repolarizing currents arising from the beta-subunit-specific energetics of recovery from inactivation

METHODS: We cloned the cDNA sequences of human PPAR-gamma2 (hPPAR-gamma2) gene and human wild type and mutant beta3-adrenergic receptor (hbeta3-AR) genes and established their eukaryotic expression vectors.
