Dietary phytophenols reduce infection-induced inflammatory pathways in human gestational tissues.
Melbourne, Australia. In Mol Hum Reprod, 07 Apr 2013
In placenta and fetal membranes, all treatments significantly reduced LPS-stimulated release and gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8; placenta decreased cyclooxygenase (COX-2) mRNA expression, subsequent release of prostaglandins PGE2 and PGF2α; and expression and activity of matrix degrading enzyme matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9.
Sphingosine 1-phosphate is a missing link between chronic inflammation and colon cancer.
Glasgow, United Kingdom. In Cancer Cell, 14 Feb 2013
In this issue of Cancer Cell, Liang and colleagues demonstrated that sphingosine kinase 1, the enzyme that catalyzes formation of the biologically active lipid sphingosine 1-phosphate, drives a malicious amplification loop involving sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 and the NF-κB/IL-6/STAT3 pathway.
Inflammation in complex regional pain syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Sydney, Australia. In Neurology, Feb 2013
In chronic CRPS, significant increases were found in 1) TNFα, bradykinin, sIL-1RI, IL-1Ra, IL-2, sIL-2Ra, IL-4, IL-7, interferon-γ, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and sRAGE (soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products) in blood; 2) IL-1Ra, MCP-1, MIP-1β, and IL-6 in blister fluid; and 3) IL-1β and IL-6 in CSF.
Inflammation in atrial fibrillation.
Birmingham, United Kingdom. In J Am Coll Cardiol, Jan 2013
Various inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-2, interleukin-6, and interleukin-8) have been associated with AF.

Molecular basis of this disease remains unclear even though deletion of 6q, trisomy of chromosomes 4 and 8, deletion of 13q and increased expression of IL-6 seem to be typical for this disease.
