Interleukin 8

IL-8, Interleukin-8, NaF
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the CXC chemokine family. This chemokine is one of the major mediators of the inflammatory response. This chemokine is secreted by several cell types. It functions as a chemoattractant, and is also a potent angiogenic factor. This gene is believed to play a role in the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis, a common respiratory tract disease caused by viral infection. This gene and other ten members of the CXC chemokine gene family form a chemokine gene cluster in a region mapped to chromosome 4q. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

Silencing of galectin-3 represses osteosarcoma cell migration and invasion through inhibition of FAK/Src/Lyn activation and β-catenin expression and increases susceptibility to chemotherapeutic agents.
Hur et al., Pusan, South Korea. In Int J Oncol, 22 Nov 2014
In the present study, we show that galectin-3 silencing in cultured human osteosarcoma cells had decreased cell migration and invasion capabilities; reduced the expression and activation of FAK, Src, Lyn, PI3K/Akt, ERK1/2 and β-catenin, which are key mediators of invasion; inhibited the expression and secretion of VEGF, MCP-1, IL-8, IL-6, MMP2/9 and phospho-Stat3; and potentiated sensitivity to cisplatin.
