HSPBAP1, PASS1, heat shock 27-kDa-associated protein 1
This gene encodes a protein that binds to one of the small heat shock proteins, specifically hsp27. Hsp27 is involved with cell growth and differentiation. This encoded protein was found to be abnormally expressed in patients with intractable epilepsy, although how brain function is affected remains unknown. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011] (from NCBI)

Papers on HSPBAP1
Androgen receptor-interacting protein HSPBAP1 facilitates growth of prostate cancer cells in androgen-deficient conditions.
Rantala et al., Helsinki, Finland. In Int J Cancer, Jul 2015
One of the candidates, HSPB (heat shock 27 kDa)-associated protein 1 (HSPBAP1), was confirmed to be highly expressed in tumor samples and its mRNA expression levels increased with the Gleason grade.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa inhibits the growth of Scedosporium aurantiacum, an opportunistic fungal pathogen isolated from the lungs of cystic fibrosis patients.
Nevalainen et al., Sydney, Australia. In Front Microbiol, 2014
Hence we assessed the effect of P. aeruginosa reference strain PAO1 and two clinical isolates PASS1 and PASS2 on the growth of two clinical S. aurantiacum isolates WM 06.482 and WM 08.202 using solid plate assays and liquid cultures, in a synthetic medium mimicking the nutrient condition in the CF sputum.
Upregulation of heat shock proteins (HSPA12A, HSP90B1, HSPA4, HSPA5 and HSPA6) in tumour tissues is associated with poor outcomes from HBV-related early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma.
Chen et al., Shanghai, China. In Int J Med Sci, 2014
With the exception of HSPA4L, HSPA12A and HSPB8, members of the HSP family, including HSPH1, HSPBP1, HSPA1A, HSPA1B, HSPA1L, HSPA2, HSPA4, HSPA5, HSPA8, HSPA9, HSPAA1, HSPAB1, HSPA14, HSPB11, HSPA13, HSP90B1 and HSPBAP1, were all overexpressed in tumour tissues (all P < 0.001).
Modulation of heat shock proteins during macrophage differentiation.
Malaguarnera et al., Catania, Italy. In Inflamm Res, 2012
Interestingly, HSPBAP1 was the only HSP significantly downregulated in both M1 and M2 conditions parallel to a significant up-regulation of its target HSPB1.
Gene expression analysis on anterior temporal neocortex of patients with intractable epilepsy.
Liu et al., Chongqing, China. In Synapse, 2009
Gene products altered in IE, namely HSPBAP1, TRAP220, glycogen synthase kinase-3beta (GSK-3beta), and cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5), were tested by immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting.
HSPBAP1 is found extensively in the anterior temporal neocortex of patients with intractable epilepsy.
Guan et al., Chongqing, China. In Synapse, 2007
HSPBAP1 is found extensively in the anterior temporal neocortex of patients with intractable epilepsy.
The status and characterization of Enteroramus dimorphus: a xylose-fermenting yeast attached to the gut of beetles.
Blackwell et al., Baton Rouge, United States. In Mycologia, 2004
The closest relative of E. dimorphus is the PASS1 isolate, repeatedly acquired from passalid beetles in eastern North America from Pennsylvania to Louisiana.
Disruption of a novel gene, DIRC3, and expression of DIRC3-HSPBAP1 fusion transcripts in a case of familial renal cell cancer and t(2;3)(q35;q21).
Geurts van Kessel et al., Nijmegen, Netherlands. In Genes Chromosomes Cancer, 2003
In addition, we found that the first two exons of DIRC3 can splice to the second exon of HSPBAP1, a JmjC-Hsp27 domain gene that maps proximal to the breakpoint on chromosome 3.
Molecular cloning and characterization of a novel human gene (HSPBAP1) from human fetal brain.
Mao et al., Shanghai, China. In Cytogenet Cell Genet, 2000
Molecular cloning and characterization of a novel human gene (HSPBAP1) from human fetal brain
Identification and characterization of a novel protein from Sertoli cells, PASS1, that associates with mammalian small stress protein hsp27.
Welsh et al., Ann Arbor, United States. In J Biol Chem, 2000
We obtained a cDNA coding for a novel protein of 428 amino acids that we have named PASS1 (protein associated with small stress proteins 1).
