How Localized are Language Brain Areas? A Review of Brodmann Areas Involvement in Oral Language.
Rosselli et al., Miami, United States. In Arch Clin Neuropsychol, Feb 2016
Departing from seven meta-analytic studies of functional magnetic resonance imaging activity during the performance of different language activities, it is proposed here that there are two different language networks in the brain: first, a language reception/understanding system, including a "core Wernicke's area" involved in word recognition (BA21, BA22, BA41, and BA42), and a fringe or peripheral area ("extended Wernicke's area:" BA20, BA37, BA38, BA39, and BA40) involved in language associations (associating words with other information); second, a language production system ("Broca's complex:" BA44, BA45, and also BA46, BA47, partially BA6-mainly its mesial supplementary motor area-and extending toward the basal ganglia and the thalamus).
Lower [3H]LY341495 binding to mGlu2/3 receptors in the anterior cingulate of subjects with major depressive disorder but not bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
Dean et al., Melbourne, Australia. In J Affect Disord, Feb 2016
Subsequently, density of [(3)H]LY341495 binding was measured in BA24(anterior cingulate cortex), BA17(visual cortex) and BA46(dorsolateral prefrontal cortex) from subjects with MDD, Bipolar Disorder(BPD), Schizophrenia(SCZ), and controls, as well as rats treated with imipramine (20mg/kg), fluoxetine (10mg/kg), or vehicle.
Aberrant expression of microRNAs as biomarker for schizophrenia: from acute state to partial remission, and from peripheral blood to cortical tissue.
Chen et al., Taipei, Taiwan. In Transl Psychiatry, Dec 2015
Unexpectedly, we found an age-dependent increase in hsa-miR-34a expressions in human cortical (Brodmann area 46 (BA46)) but not subcortical region (caudate putamen).
Psychological essentialism, gender, and parenthood: Physical transformation leads to heightened essentialist conceptions.
Reynolds et al., Boulder, United States. In J Pers Soc Psychol, Dec 2015
Psychological essentialism is the tendency to view entities as if they have an underlying, often invisible essence that makes them what they are (Medin & Ortony, 1989), and the presence of a genetic basis for group membership contributes to such conceptions (Dar-Nimrod & Heine, 2011; Keller, 2005).
Exploring Cognitive Diversity: Anthropological Perspectives on Cognition.
Bender et al., Bergen, Norway. In Top Cogn Sci, Oct 2015
Anthropology and the other cognitive sciences currently maintain a troubled relationship (Beller, Bender, & Medin, ).
The rostral prefrontal cortex underlies individual differences in working memory capacity: An approach from the hierarchical model of the cognitive control.
Osaka et al., Suita, Japan. In Cortex, Oct 2015
By manipulating an episodic factor of cognitive control (control in selecting an appropriate task set according to a temporal context) and using a parametric modulation analysis, we found that both high- and low- WMC individuals have similar activation patterns in the premotor cortex (BA6, 8), caudal prefrontal cortex (BA44, 45), and frontopolar cortex (BA10, 11), but differed in the rostral part of the prefrontal cortex (BA46/47); high WMC individuals showed greater activation in the higher episodic control condition, whereas low WMC individuals showed reduced activation when episodic control was required.
(1)H, (15)N and (13)C assignment of the amyloidogenic protein medin using fast-pulsing NMR techniques.
Madine et al., Liverpool, United Kingdom. In Biomol Nmr Assign, Oct 2015
Using recent developments in fast NMR techniques, band-selective excitation short transient and band-selective optimized flip-angle short-transient heteronuclear multiple quantum coherence we have been able to assign a 5 kDa full-length amyloidogenic protein called medin.
[Post-polio syndrome - a case report].
Stępień et al., Warsaw, Poland. In Pol Merkur Lekarski, Jul 2015
In this study we described a case of man who developed PPS 36 years after Heine-Medin disease.
MUC-1 expression in pleomorphic adenomas using two human milk fat globule protein membrane antibodies (HMFG-1 and HMFG-2).
Garcés-Ortíz et al., Mexico. In J Appl Oral Sci, May 2015
Human milk fat globule protein membrane (HMFG) monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) comprise a set of antibodies against the mucin 1 (MUC-1) protein detected in several salivary gland tumors.
Should the study of Homo sapiens be part of cognitive science?
Laurence et al., Los Angeles, United States. In Top Cogn Sci, 2012
Beller, Bender, and Medin argue that a reconciliation between anthropology and cognitive science seems unlikely.
Correlation between serum lactadherin and pulse wave velocity and cardiovascular risk factors in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Gao et al., China. In Diabetes Res Clin Pract, 2012
serum lactadherin is correlated with poor blood glucose control and diabetic vascular complications.
Signs of cross-seeding: aortic medin amyloid as a trigger for protein AA deposition.
Westermark et al., Uppsala, Sweden. In Amyloid, 2011
in vitro studies showed that medin amyloid-like fibrils promote the aggregation of protein amyloid A into fibrils
Milk fat globule-epidermal growth factor 8 is decreased in intestinal epithelium of ulcerative colitis patients and thereby causes increased apoptosis and impaired wound healing.
Li et al., Jinan, China. In Mol Med, 2011
Decreased colonic MFGE8 expression in patients with ulcerative colitis may be associated with mucosal inflammatory activity and clinical disease activity through basal cell apoptosis and preventing tissue healing in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis
MFGE8 does not influence chorio-retinal homeostasis or choroidal neovascularization in vivo.
Sennlaub et al., Paris, France. In Plos One, 2011
The distribution of the SNP (rs4945 and rs1878326) of MFGE8 was analyzed in two groups of patients with "wet" age-related macular Degeneration and their age-matched controls.
