Flt3 interacting zinc finger protein 1

Fiz1, Flt3 interacting zinc finger protein
This gene encodes zinc finger protein, which interacts with a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in the regulation of hematopoietic and lymphoid cells. This gene product also interacts with a transcription factor that regulates the expression of rod-specific genes in retina. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)

FIZ1 is expressed during photoreceptor maturation, and synergizes with NRL and CRX at rod-specific promoters in vitro.

Activators of the Rhodopsin gene are present before activation of the gene. FIZ1 expression rises at this time and it can synergize with NRL and CRX at the Rho and PDE6B promoters. FIZ1 may syncronize the onset of maturation related gene expression.
