The specificity for the N-glycomotif was 88% at P >or= .9. Penetration into the moderate to low protein concentration range (microg-ng/mL) occurred, and several proteins associated with tumor progression or metastasis were identified, including CA-125, CD44, CD166, lysosome-associated membrane glycoprotein 2 (LAMP-2), multimerin 2, and periostin.

In order to characterize the desmoplastic response in thyroid cancers, we evaluated the expression pattern of three molecular markers of activated fibroblasts/myofibroblasts, namely, fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAPalpha), tenascin-C (Tn-C), and alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA), as well as the endothelial markers endoglyx-1, CD34 and CD31 in a series of 28 metastatic and non-metastatic medullary thyroid cancers.
Identification of a high molecular weight endothelial cell surface glycoprotein, endoGlyx-1, in normal and tumor blood vessels.

This antigen, designated endoGlyx-1, is expressed on the surface of cultured endothelium, with no changes in expression after cytokine-stimulation. Immunohistochemical assays detect endoGlyx-1 in endothelial cells of large, medium-sized, and small blood vessels, including capillaries, in all human organs tested; only hepatic and splenic sinusoids lack the molecule.
