Cyclin L2, CCNL2
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the cyclin family. Through its interaction with several proteins, such as RNA polymerase II, splicing factors, and cyclin-dependent kinases, this protein functions as a regulator of the pre-mRNA splicing process, as well as in inducing apoptosis by modulating the expression of apoptotic and antiapoptotic proteins. The main aims of the project were to gain the following novel information: (1) to determine if the genes CCNL2, WDR61 and BAHCC1 are potentially important mechanosensitive genes in monolayer, (2) to determine if these genes showed the same differential expression in a 3D environment (either tethered to RGD or simply encapsulated within a hydrogel (with RGE motif)) and (3) to determine whether the mesenchymal stem cells would survive within the hydrogels over several days whilst enduring dynamic culture.
