TBC1 domain family, member 10C

Carabin, TBC1D10C
The protein encoded by this gene has an N-terminal Rab-GTPase domain and a binding site at the C-terminus for calcineurin, and is an inhibitor of both the Ras signaling pathway and calcineurin, a phosphatase regulated by calcium and calmodulin. Genes encoding similar proteins are located on chromsomes 16 and 22. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012] (from NCBI)

Papers on Carabin
Carabin protects against cardiac hypertrophy by blocking calcineurin, Ras, and Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II signaling.
Lezoualc'h et al., Montpellier, France. In Circulation, Feb 2015
METHODS AND RESULTS: Here, we characterized Carabin, a protein expressed in cardiomyocytes that was downregulated in cardiac hypertrophy and human heart failure.
All members of the EPI64 subfamily of TBC/RabGAPs also have GAP activities towards Ras.
Nakamura et al., Noda, Japan. In J Biochem, 2013
EPI64C/TBC1D10C/carabin, a haematopoietically enriched GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for Rab35, has been shown to exhibit RasGAP activity.
Carabin deficiency in B cells increases BCR-TLR9 costimulation-induced autoimmunity.
Soulas-Sprauel et al., Strasbourg, France. In Embo Mol Med, 2012
Here, we show that Carabin is low in B cells of (NZB × NZW) F1 mice (murine SLE model) long before the disease onset, and is low in B cells of lupus patients during the inactive phases of the disease.
Rab35 and its GAP EPI64C in T cells regulate receptor recycling and immunological synapse formation.
Shaw et al., Bethesda, United States. In J Biol Chem, 2008
EPI64C (TBC1D10C) is an uncharacterized candidate RabGAP we identified by mass spectrometry as abundant in human peripheral blood T cells that is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic cells.
Feedback inhibition of calcineurin and Ras by a dual inhibitory protein Carabin.
Liu et al., Baltimore, United States. In Nature, 2007
Carabin is a negative feedback inhibitor of the calcineurin signalling pathway that also mediates crosstalk between calcineurin and Ras
