This method was applied on the cellular prion protein (PrP(C)) as a case study and, in particular, addressed to the quali/quantification of the structural features conferred by either E200K mutations and treatment with CaCl(2), both able to induce the scrapie conversion of PrP.
Use of partially dephosphorylated β-casein to stabilise oil-in-water emulsions resulted in larger fat globules compared to control β-casein, but such globules were less susceptible to aggregation in the presence of 15 or 30 mM CaCl(2).

The human and mouse SLC25A29 mitochondrial ornithine transporters (designated as ORNT3) rescue the deficient ornithine metabolism in fibroblasts of patients with the hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria (HHH) syndrome.
Whereas sodium and potassium did not modify the relatively low adenosine triphosphatase activity seen in the absence of calcium, a pattern similar to that of the sodium-transport enzyme system was seen afer the addition of CaCl(2).
These agents affect the stability of the native form of macromolecules as diverse as ribonuclease, collagen, DNA, and myosin in very similar ways; salts such as KSCN and CaCl(2) serve as very potent general structural destabilizers or denaturants, while salts such as (NH(4))(2)SO(4) and K(2)HPO(4) strongly stabilize the native conformation.
