Apolipoprotein L, 2

APOL3, APOL2, apolipoprotein L, 2, apoL-II
This gene is a member of the apolipoprotein L gene family. The encoded protein is found in the cytoplasm, where it may affect the movement of lipids or allow the binding of lipids to organelles. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] (from NCBI)
Top mentioned proteins: apolipoprotein L-I, CAN, SET, MHA, POLYMERASE

However, most of the identified risk loci could not be replicated by independent studies with a few exceptions including those in ELMO1, FRMD3, CARS, MYO16/IRS2, and APOL3-MYH9 genes.
Re-Sequencing of the APOL1-APOL4 and MYH9 Gene Regions in African Americans Does Not Identify Additional Risks for CKD Progression.
Langefeld et al., Winston-Salem, United States. In Am J Nephrol, 2014
Eleven variants, including a rare APOL3 Gln58Ter null variant (rs11089781), were genotyped in a replication panel of 1,571 AA ESKD cases and 1,334 controls.
Copy Number Variation at the APOL1 Locus.
Pollak et al., Cambridge, United States. In Plos One, 2014
8 samples sequenced in the 1000 Genomes Project showed increased coverage over a ~100kb region that includes APOL2, APOL1 and part of MYH9, suggesting the presence of APOL1 copy number greater than 2. We reasoned that such duplications should be enriched in apparent G1 heterozygotes with kidney disease.
A circulating antibody panel for pretransplant prediction of FSGS recurrence after kidney transplantation.
Sarwal et al., Paris, France. In Sci Transl Med, 2014
A panel of seven Abs (CD40, PTPRO, CGB5, FAS, P2RY11, SNRPB2, and APOL2) could predict posttransplant FSGS recurrence with 92% accuracy.
Obestatin and Nt8U influence glycerolipid metabolism and PPAR gamma signaling in mice.
Manjappara et al., Mysore, India. In Int J Biochem Cell Biol, 2014
Nt8U upregulated genes implicated in the same two pathways but with lesser significance and also upregulated APOL2.
Analysis of coding variants identified from exome sequencing resources for association with diabetic and non-diabetic nephropathy in African Americans.
Bowden et al., Winston-Salem, United States. In Hum Genet, 2014
In African Americans, SNPs in OR2L8, OR2AK2, C6orf167 (MMS22L), LIMK2, APOL3, APOL2, and APOL1 were nominally associated (P = 1.8 × 10(-4)-0.044).
Genome-wide association study of degenerative bony changes of the temporomandibular joint.
Inoue et al., Tokyo, Japan. In Oral Dis, 2014
According to in silico predictions of the 41 SNPs, two intronic SNPs of APOL3 (rs80575) and MRC2 (rs2460300) may fall within regulatory elements and affect DNA-protein interactions.

MYH9 rs4821480, rs2032487, rs4821481 and rs3752462, APOL 1rs73885319, rs16996616, rs60910145, rs71785313, and APOL3 rs11089781 gene polymorphisms were determined.
Mitochondrial proteomic analysis of human host cells infected with H3N2 swine influenza virus.
Zhou et al., Hangzhou, China. In J Proteomics, 2013
We further demonstrated that apolipoprotein L2 was upregulated in the cytoplasm and translocated to mitochondria during virus infection.
Pathway analysis of a genome-wide association study in schizophrenia.
Song et al., Seoul, South Korea. In Gene, 2013
Two of 15 candidate genes are known genes associated with schizophrenia: KCNQ2 and APOL2.
Copy number variation of individual cattle genomes using next-generation sequencing.
Liu et al., Beltsville, United States. In Genome Res, 2012
In contrast, genes related to pathogen- and parasite-resistance, such as CATHL4 and ULBP17, were highly duplicated in the Nelore individual relative to the taurine cattle, while genes involved in lipid transport and metabolism, including APOL3 and FABP2, were highly duplicated in the beef breeds.

Mismatch repair-independent increase in spontaneous mutagenesis in yeast lacking non-essential subunits of DNA polymerase ε.
Johansson et al., Umeå, Sweden. In Plos Genet, 2010
Nonetheless, deletion of DPB3 and DPB4 elevates spontaneous frameshift and base substitution rates in vivo, to the same extent as the loss of Pol ε proofreading activity in a pol2-4 strain.
