Angiomotin is a protein that binds angiostatin, a circulating inhibitor of the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). Angiomotin mediates angiostatin inhibition of endothelial cell migration and tube formation in vitro. The partial cDNA exhibited a high degree of identity to an uncharacterized human cDNA clone, KIAA0989, which encodes a protein of 780 amino acids and contains a predicted coiled-coil domain in the middle of the protein.
The motin family of proteins is comprised of three polypeptides, angiomotin, angiomotin-like 1, and angiomotin-like 2. Angiomotin is an angiostatin-binding protein that promotes endothelial cell motility and is involved in angiogenesis.
