Chemical compounds from anthropogenic environment and immune evasion mechanisms: potential interactions.
Durham, United States. In Carcinogenesis, 22 Jun 2015
Our overarching objective was to review related signaling pathways influencing immune surveillance such as the pathways involving PI3K/Akt, chemokines, TGF-β, FAK, IGF-1, HIF-1α, IL-6, IL-1α, CTLA-4 and PD-1/PDL-1 could individually or collectively impact immunosurveillance.
Serine phosphorylation and arginine methylation at the crossroads to neurodegeneration.
Trento, Italy. In Exp Neurol, 12 Jun 2015
Emerging evidence suggests that two key post-translational modifications of polyglutamine-expanded androgen receptor, namely serine phosphorylation by protein kinase B/Akt and arginine methylation by protein arginine methyltransferases, occur at the same consensus site, are mutually exclusive, and have opposing effects on neurotoxicity.
Molecular and Genomic Alterations in Glioblastoma Multiforme.
Coimbra, Portugal. In Am J Pathol, 11 Jun 2015
Such genetic alterations target distinct combinations of the growth factor receptor-ras signaling pathways, as well as the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/phosphatase and tensin homolog/AKT, retinoblastoma/cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) N2A-p16(INK4A), and TP53/mouse double minute (MDM) 2/MDM4/CDKN2A-p14(ARF) pathways, in cells that present features associated with key stages of normal neurogenesis and (normal) central nervous system cell types.
Two insulin receptors determine alternative wing morphs in planthoppers.
Hangzhou, China. In Nature, 26 Apr 2015
Here we show that two insulin receptors in the migratory brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens, InR1 and InR2, have opposing roles in controlling long wing versus short wing development by regulating the activity of the forkhead transcription factor Foxo. InR1, acting via the phosphatidylinositol-3-OH kinase (PI(3)K)-protein kinase B (Akt) signalling cascade, leads to the long-winged morph if active and the short-winged morph if inactive.
Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester Is a Potential Therapeutic Agent for Oral Cancer.
Taiwan. In Int J Mol Sci, Dec 2014
According to the evidence that aberrations in the EGFR/phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling, NF-κB function, COX-2 activity, and MMPs activity are frequently found in oral cancers, and that the phosphorylation of Akt, EGFR, and COX-2 correlates to oral cancer patient survival and clinical progression, we believe that CAPE treatment will be useful for treatment of advanced oral cancer patients.
Combination of Quercetin and 2-Methoxyestradiol Enhances Inhibition of Human Prostate Cancer LNCaP and PC-3 Cells Xenograft Tumor Growth.
More papers using
Beijing, China. In Plos One, Dec 2014
After therapeutic intervention for 4 weeks, combination treatment of quercetin and 2-ME i) significantly inhibited prostate cancer xenograft tumor growth by 46.8% for LNCaP and 51.3% for PC-3 as compared to vehicle control group, more effective than quercetin (28.4% for LNCaP, 24.8% for PC3) or 2-ME (32.1% for LNCaP, 28.9% for PC3) alone; ii) was well tolerated by BALB/c mice and no obvious toxic reactions were observed; iii) led to higher Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, cleaved caspase-3 protein expression and apoptosis rate; and iv) resulted in lower phosphorylated AKT (pAKT) protein level, vascular endothelial growth factor protein and mRNA expression, microvascular density and proliferation rate than single drug treatment.
