Activator of basal transcription 1

ABT1, activator of basal transcription 1, Esf2, Esf2p, TATA-binding protein-binding protein
Basal transcription of genes by RNA polymerase II requires the interaction of TATA-binding protein (TBP) with the core region of class II promoters. Studies in mouse suggest that the protein encoded by this gene likely activates basal transcription from class II promoters by interaction with TBP and the class II promoter DNA. We find that a 166 kb BAC transgene derived from CAST/EiJ mice and containing tRNA genes and activator of basal transcription 1 (Abt1), a protein-coding gene that is required for ribosome biogenesis, contains the genetic modifier responsible for motor neuron rescue.
The nucleolar protein Esf2 interacts directly with the DExD/H box RNA helicase, Dbp8, to stimulate ATP hydrolysis.
Baserga et al., New Haven, United States. In Nucleic Acids Res, 2005
Identification of Esf2, a nucleolar putative RNA binding protein, as a binding partner for Dbp8, and show that it enhances Dbp8 ATPase activity by decreasing the K(M) for ATP.
Esf2p, a U3-associated factor required for small-subunit processome assembly and compaction.
